PEMPIE A WINNER AT SALISBURY
24/05/19 – Pempie came home a triumphant winner of the 1mile 2f Classified Stakes at Salisbury on Saturday evening for red hot jockey, Oisin Murphy and trainer Andrew Balding.
The three year old filly by Lope de Vega was having her second start in handicap company after a pleasing second at Windsor only a couple of weeks before.
Pempie tracked the leader, Akwaan, virtually from the off and stayed on his tail for much of the way. When jockey Oisin Murphy asked her to quicken two furlongs from home, she drew up alongside him and eased into the lead inside the final furlong to come clear. She won by a comfortable one and a half lengths in the end.
Pempie is by a good sire in Lope de Vega and is out of an Acatenango mare so her pedigree suggests this is the right trip for her. Her full brother, Sky Eagle is a multiple winner over twelve furlongs and has steadily progressed with time. We feel this is exactly what Pempie needs and believe there is more to come with her as the season progresses.
