Trainer:  Andrew Balding, Kingsclere

WODETON  is by the sire sensation WOOTTON BASSETT who now stands at Coolmore. He has been responsible for a plethora of high class, Group 1 performers including the Breeders’ Cup Champion Audarya, the Champion Stakes hero of 2016, Almanzour and the 2021 Prix Marcel Boussac winner Zellie.

Wootton Bassett really stamps his progeny and WODETON is another gorgeous looking type by his sire. He was bought from the Arqana Breeze Up Sales and went into training with Andrew Balding mid way through the Summer. He was showing a lot of promise on the gallops in the lead up to his first run and we were thrilled with his first start where he finished second on what turned into pretty heavy, unfavourable ground.

Unfortunately, Wodeton, was unlucky to have his saddle slip as he cantered down to post on his second start at Salisbury. He bolted off and left his rider on board, Hollie Doyle, no choice but to do a flying dismount. Although the vets him passed him to run, he was very free in his race due to the early antics and ran no sort of race at all. His final race of the season was a much better performance, finishing 3rd in a good maiden at Kempton. He has been gelded and is now on his Winter holiday. We know he has plenty of ability and believe the time off will do him the world of good to fill out and mature. He will start the new season as a three-year-old off on decent opening handicap mark of 76.
