ANGEL SHINES AT NEWMARKET
ANGEL DOWN travelled to Newmarket on Friday evening looking to improve on his first two runs of the season. The Henry Candytrained gelding by our ex champion sprinter Kyllachy was sent off at an easy to back 13/2 and with top apprentice Kieran Shoemark on board we were hopeful he would run a decent race.
He popped out of the stalls well and settled behind the pace for most of the race. At the two furlong pole it was Her Majesty The Queen’s horse, Patchwork, who was leading the charge and seemed to have the race won. Kieran was patient with Angel Down and knew he had something extra left in the tank. He asked him to quicken with half a furlong to go and Angel responded well, getting up in the knick of time to win by a cosy half a length.
This was a pleasing display from Angel Down who really appreciated this style of riding along with the rain softened ground.
